Sometimes the simplest tasks can be incredibly frustrating without the proper technique. Such was my fate the first time I tried to properly align two pictures side by side on my WordPress blog. Floating one photo left and one photo right might work in some occasions but it leaves a gap in the middle and often off-sets one photo slightly above the other. See example below:
As an additional frustration your text will begin to fill the gap between the pictures which will look funny and terrible all at the same time.
This leaves us with two solutions. The first one is the lazy way which I’m all about.
Simply place your image source links one after another. Don’t drop down a line, just connect them as follows:
<img src=”http://ibytemedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/deafandy.jpg”><img src=”http://ibytemedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/deafandy.jpg”>
The url to your image can be found by going to your medial library and clicking edit on the photo you want. Scroll down and you will find the file url.
The second way is to use HTML tables. However, the visual editor in WordPress can screw up your HTML code by adding or stripping things to and from your code. Why this is I don’t know but you can turn off the visual editor by going to your WordPress dashboard. Scroll down until you find “Users”. Click on “Your Profile” and check the box that says “Disable the visual editor when writing.”
<table> <tr><td><img src=YOURIMAGEURL></td> <td><img src=YOURIMAGEURL></td></tr> </table>
Hopefully learning how to put two pictures side by side in WordPress will be a little less frustrating for you than it was for me.
